2025 (MMXXV) is the current year, and is a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2025th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 25th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 6th year of the 2020s decade.
2025 is the first square year since 1936, with 2025 being the square of 45.[1]

- Bulgaria and Romania complete the process of joining the Schengen Area, lifting land border controls.[2]
- Liechtenstein becomes the 39th country to legalize same-sex marriage.[3]
- Ukraine halts the transportation of Russian gas supplies through the country, following the expiration of a five-year transit deal.[4]
- Ukraine becomes a state party in the International Criminal Court.[5]
- Eleven people are killed (including the perpetrator), and 35 others are injured during a vehicle-ramming and shooting attack in New Orleans, Louisiana.[6]

- March 31 – The Caribbean guilder is planned to be introduced, replacing the Netherlands Antillean guilder as the currency for Curaçao and Sint Maarten.[16]

- May 17 – 2025 Australian federal election: Latest possible date for a simultaneous House and half-Senate election. If the elections are held separately, the House election could be as late as September 27; however, it is unlikely that there would be separate elections for the House and half-Senate.[citation needed]

- Norway aims to ban the sale of all new diesel and petrol cars by this year.[34][35]
- South Africa will host the G20 summit, the first nation in Africa to do so.[citation needed]
- Brazil will host the COP 30 summit.[36]
- The 2025 Venezuelan parliamentary election is scheduled to be held.[citation needed]

Laureates for Nobel Prizes in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace will be presumably announced in October, with the awards ceremony taking place on 10 December 2025.[38]
